PGP keys

To protect stored data and messages (i.e. secure email) I use the free/libre open source GnuPG implementation of OpenPGP, derived from Phil Zimmerman’s original Pretty Good Privacy (PGP), for encryption and digital signatures. Following below is my PGP key.

PGP employes public-key cryptography whereby a keypair comprised of uniquely bound public and private keys is used to produce ciphertext from plaintext and vice versa. A message can be encrypted using a public key such that only the possessor of the corresponding private key can decrypt it. Conversely, a message can be digitally signed using a private key such that anyone can use the corresponding public key to verify it. It is important that private keys are kept strictly secret so that no other party can decrypt confidential messages or, more importantly, sign messages and masquerade as the owner of the key.

PGP is an alternative public-key cryptography scheme in which users form a web of trust (which is often simply a bilateral trust relationship between any two parties), rather than the conventional X.509 public-key infrastructure dependent upon a hierarchy of trusted third-party certification authorities.
